Example of uneven plaster causing
distortion of the painted scene |
 |
Unevenness
or deformation
Parts of the plaster which, for a variety of reasons
(static changes, infiltration of moisture, previous restoration
work or detachment, etc) are no longer sitting on the surface
where they were originally laid, sometimes causing distortion
in the view of the painted scene. In most cases, the damage
is the result of the plaster's breaking up and the pieces
moving outwards, then being consolidated without taking care
to return them to their original position. This type of situation
arises mainly along the main lesions, especially in the roof
vaulting and the right wall, and in areas where the plaster
has been deliberately detached for restoration purposes.
